Ealy James

Friday 20 June

About the artist

Born and raised in Alabama, singer-songwriter Early James received his first guitar at age 16. Shortly thereafter he was writing his own songs. Citing James Taylor and Johnny Cash as formative influences on his music, he also listened to Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams. In the following years James discovered many musical genres, such as blues, folk, rock, and classic country. He incorporated elements of all those in his songs, and expanded his influences to include bluegrass and alt-country. His career really took flight when he was discovered by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, who went on to produce James’ debut album, 2020’s Singing For My Supper. It was followed two years later by Strange Time To Be Alive. Praised for his raw, soulful voice, James’ songs vary from intimate, lonely blues songs and jazzy, romantic folk and bombastic murder ballads. In short: you’ll just have to see for yourself!
