The third of four sons in a musical family from California, Robben Ford taught himself to play the guitar upon hearing the two guitarists from The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. At a young age, he went to see blues greats in concert and went on to tour with Charlie Musselwhite and Jimmy Witherspoon. Although Ford also developed a love for jazz (partly due to his second instrument, the saxophone) and has embraced many different genres, the blues remained at the core of his guitar playing. Having played with many greats varying from Miles Davis, George Harrison, and Joni Mitchell to Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan, among many others, Ford is a five-time Grammy nominee and was named as one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician magazine. His latest album, Night In The City, was released in December.
