Van Morrison

Friday 19 June

About the artist

Van Morrison is viewed as one of the greatest composers of his generation. The Irishman has always been a man of his own when it comes to musical styles, playing music ranging from jazz to Celtic sounds and from blue-eyed soul to folk. Yet, the raw blues he grew up with (his teenage idols were artists like Howlin’ Wolf and Sonny Boy Williamson) remains at the heart of his music. The Northern Irish-born singer, composer and saxophonist has an impressive record: he has won multiple Grammy Awards and is known for his indefatigable work rate. Now 80 years old, his age doesn’t hold him back: in the last three years, he has released no less than five albums; the most recent is 2025’s Remembering Now. As a teenager, he found early fame with the group Them, before continuing as a solo artist, and creating the legendary Astral Weeks album. During his lengthy career, he has scored hits with songs such as Gloria (with Them), Have I Told You Lately, Brown-Eyed Girl, Moondance, and Bright Side Of The Road.
